I always wanted this outfit, but Dirk wasn't my favourite character back then; I only really cared about lesbians. Will I append images to convince you of the authenticity of this statement? Will this page just become an archive of decade old fanart??? Alright...
Anyway, I made the costume recently for no reason. I started off drafting the hood pattern using this ancient post, but ended up hating the front of the capelet as they had it (sorry to this person) (from 2012) and instead used a pattern I had lying around for the Skjoldehamn hood (which I used for a Blood cultist costume, which you don't get to see, because it looks silly). You cut square gores which ends up looking extremely triangular - I figured this worked. Who cares what Dirk looks like anyway? Also, I didn't line the inside of the cape, and it is extremely distracting!! Moving on.
I used this video for the shorts and promptly disregarded half of it. It turns out these are exceedingly easy anyway. These and the hood are made of the same fabric. Unsure if this is strictly accurate. Refer to previous statement.
The shirt is the only part made of actually nice fabric - this velveteen from Spotlight I preceded to slightly maul with an iron - it is on one of the sleeves - but don't look!!! The closest pattern lying around was New Look 6871 which is to say that it is not actually close at all. If you trace the yokes + front/back pattern pieces as one and allow for the absence of gathers the whole thing works out. The symbol is satin stitched on (very messy, but it adds... charm? and... character?) and the fabric for it was from some scraps I got at the op shop for $2. It came with a long pink strip that reminds me of Rose's mother's scarf... hmmmmmmmm.......
Anyway that's all. The whole thing is a little silly, but what are you supposed to do with adult money except indulge fantasies you entertained when you were twelve?? Don't answer that.,
